This story takes place on a beautiful sunny afternoon at the home of our founder (Robert Hirsch) on Lake Austin.
He was having drinks on the patio with an investment banker about investing in small private companies, and the investment banker said something that resonated so profoundly with him, that his words stuck in his mind long after… he said, “Robert, the problem I have with small companies is that I don’t know how to get my money out of them.”
And it was at that point that Robert realized an entrepreneurial truth that had eluded him for almost 20 years that came before that… which was that he always had a “problem” getting OUT of the business.
